Our school is taking part in a Super Bowl project, Super Kids-Super Sharing, to help local children in need. You can help by donating new or lightly used sports equipment and/or school supplies.

We’re teaming up with the National Football League, the Arizona Cardinals, the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, the Salvation Army South Mountain Kroc Community Center and Verizon for Super Kids-super Sharing. Catch the Super Bowl spirit and help local children.
Thank you for your support!
Each year, United Parent Council (UPC) collects donations to benefit shoe closets in Paradise Valley Schools. Shoes that Fit provides shoes to shoe closets in the district. The closets are open to social workers, psychologists, and nurses across the district to benefit those who are in need.
Please drop the follow items off in the donation box set up in the CCES lobby any time before December 12th:
• New Athletic shoes (sizes 1-8)
• Gift cards (Payless Shoes is a great option)
• Monetary donation (check made payable to Shoes That Fit)
If you have any question about UPC or Shoes that Fit please contact Melinda Piyis or Carrie Love.

The 2nd Grade Artist in Residence Program has recently concluded and it was an amazing experience for our 2nd graders! Copper Canyon’s very own parents Christine Harthun, a Visual Artist and Educator with the Scottsdale Center for Performing Art’s Education Department, and Natalie Songco with the CCES PTO Executive Board generously donated time to oversee this program as well as to inspire and guide the students with all related aspects over the past several weeks. Also back for a second year, Jane Metzger guided the students through the process of paper making. It was a wonderful hands-on experience where the children learned how to make paper out of a cotton fiber and water pulp. Each student made a few sheets of paper and once their paper was dry, they hand-bound the paper into a book. To fill the pages of their books, the experience culminated with poetry writing sessions guided by Leslie Haddad, Youth Programs Manager at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. The end result was a beautiful hand-made keepsake that the students and parents will cherish in the years to come. This is yet another example of the amazing programs fully funded by our PTO!
We wish to thank Christine Harthun, Jane Metzer and Leslie Haddad for bringing their talent and expertise to CCES for this amazing program as well as Mrs. Van Gorp, Mrs. Turner, Ms. Gilligan, Mrs. Trimble, Mrs. Bowser, and Natalie Songco and the many classroom parent volunteers for their assistance and support of this program.
Spring 2015 CoyoteFest planning is underway…. HERE WE GO!
Thank you Katherine Pipes for chairing this awesome event, we know it is going to rock! At our last meeting, we started the planning process, so Spring 2015 CoyoteFest planning is underway.
What is CoyoteFest? It’s Copper Canyon’s annual festival with carnival-type attractions and over-the-top fun! Climb a rock wall, bounce away in the cool inflatables, and enjoy delicious food while shaking your groove thang to some rockin’ tunes. That’s just a sneak-peek, there is so much more! Watch your email for a save-the-date as we change direction of CoyoteFest this year from our traditional Fall Festival to a Spring Fling.
The 2014-2015 CoyoteFest Planning Committee is seeking your time, talent, and treasure toward making this Spring’s CoyoteFest the best yet! Whether you are a first time Copper Canyon parent, like myself, or a seasoned parent who has experienced this annual community driven family-friendly event in the past, we need your support more than ever this year.
Do you have?:
• fundraising and/or volunteer experience
• an event planning background
• an eye for detail and logistics
• a personal connection to community partners that would be interested in hearing more about a sponsorship or in-kind opportunity
• an overall willingness to see this event succeed
I can’t wait to see the looks on the faces of our kids as they walk-up to one of the best events to-date and I would be honored if you would consider serving as a member of this year’s CoyoteFest Planning Committee. Contact Katherine Pipes for more details.
With great appreciation,
First-time Kinder mom
